LOVE HAS NO BORDERS

LOVE HAS NO BORDERS premiered at the San Diego Symphony.

DEVIL’S BREATH

Inspired by actual events, Devil’s Breath is the story of Elena, an immigrant “Dreamer” who arrived in the United States at a young age and years later formed a family with Miguel, and their two children. Elena and Miguel work, love and do what they can to live the American Dream.  Unexpectedly, Elena receives news that her father is close to death in their Baja village. Although she has not returned in many years , it is decided that she and their son, Michael, will travel to Mexico to see her family and be with her father one last time. In his final hours, her painter-philosopher-opera aficionado father , Enrique, teaches his grandson about his rich Mexican heritage. After Enrique’s death, Elena and Michael begin their long journey home to the United States. Aware of wildfires that are growing along the border, Miguel and their young daughter anxiously await their return. At the border crossing Elena is turned back my an immigration official and Michael is held in a detention facility. Concerned for their son’s well-being, it is decided that Elena must hire a human smuggler for the dangerous journey home – unaware that both man and nature are fatally out of control.
